POP UP GALLERY - RED

The pop up gallery space was designed to function as two distinct but complementary entities. The primary goal (day) was to create a well lit and comfortable gallery environment for the display of art work, provide table space for display and food and become a welcoming area for the RGB event. The secondary goal (night) was equally important and was designed to provide space and infrastructure for the DJ and bar so that the gallery space could be converted into an intimate party once the gallery event was completed.

Structure for the table top surfaces, lighting grids and accent forms were reclaimed canopy frames (from the Cheerio building) that were wrapped with visqueen and then internally lit. This allowed for the light boxes to function as mounting positions for the display lighting during the gallery event and create a diffuse red glow for the party.

The interior walls and ceiling were merely scraped of peeling paint and wallpaper to leave a rough and interesting surface, illustrating that the structure's fate is still undetermined as to purpose. The pop-up gallery space is meant to be temporary so specific elements to the space remained (such as a collection of toilets that are awaiting installation).

The Red room contained the access point to the main street entry and acted as the introduction to the event as both gallery and discoteque.
